NAROOMA MEANS CLEAR BLUE WATER IN DHURGA LANGUAGE.
Narooma is a place where the rainforest meets the sea. With its abundance of natural beauty, stunning beaches, wildlife and local produce it is no wonder this has been a gathering place for thousands of years.
Narooma is 4.5 hours south of Sydney and 3 hours west of Canberra making it far enough away to escape the crowds for a truly authentic locals experience.

Just off the coast of Narooma is Barunguba Montague Island the second largest island off NSW but one of the most highly certified conservation areas in the world. One of the most unique and popular experiences is to snorkel/dive with the seals followed by a guided tour of the island with a National Parks and Wildlife guide.
Whale watching season is mid-August to early November and the stretch of water between Narooma and the island is known as the humpback whale highway which makes it for perfect whale watching. The sunset penguin tour from September to January is an experience and not to be missed.

Narooma is surrounded by National Parks and the Batemans Marine Park. It is an area of intense natural beauty with one beautiful beach after another all the way along the coast.
Narooma has one of the most temperate climates in the world with temperatures averaging a few degrees warmer in winter and cooler in summer. There are numerous hinterland and coastal walking trails each with their own unique landscape, views and cultural significance.
There is a strong and incredible Indigenous culture in the region. We work with a number of First Nations Knowledge Holders and Elders offering guided walking tours, cultural cruise of the Wagonga Inlet, workshops and more.
There is so much more to the South Coast and our cultural Dreaming Stories, bush tucker and bush medicines are abundant. Working with our Yuin partners we would love to share their knowledge with you. It is so important for the sustainability of our region.
Narooma is fast becoming one of the most sought-after all year around cycling destinations of Australia with the 21 km round trip Narooma to Dalmeny Coastal Trail being voted in the top 3 cycle trails in NSW by Australia Geographic Adventure Magazine.
NAROOMA IS AN ALL YEAR ROUND CYCLING DESTINATION
There are 30km of mountain bike trails already open with a further 70km of professionally built trails opening very soon. The South Coast region as whole will shortly have more professionally built mountain bike trails than anywhere else in Australia.
There are cycling trails to suit all ages and abilities which makes it perfect for families, couples, multigenerational groups and mountain bike enthusiasts.

The Wagonga Inlet produces arguably the best rock oysters in Australia. The unique merroir of the Narooma oysters is said to be due to the geological formation of the Wagonga Inlet with its tidal flow and the rare sea grasses which add to their unique taste.
